The greater Garner area has a lot to be proud of, as does the more than 110 students and families at Lord of Life Preschool and Kindergarten Academy (LOLPK). In the past ten years, the School has won numerous State and National Awards as a leader in early childhood education. This school year, LOLPK has more reasons to take pride in its school as both a state and national award winner for its comprehensive effort in support of parent involvement. LOLPK was awarded the State Dogwood Award at the Annual North Carolina PTA Conference 2004 for the Most Productive PTA in the State of North Carolina . This award follows on the heels of an earlier national recognition by the National PTA, which recognized Lord of Life Preschool and Kindergarten Academy as a Parent Involvement School of Excellence. National PTA’s Parent Involvement Schools of Excellence certification program recognizes schools that uphold the highest standards in parent involvement. Director Debi LaVine organized and chartered a formal PTA in 1997, as a vision to support parental participation in the joint quest to enrich the lives and educational opportunities of all children. Research shows conclusively that parent involvement in a child’s school improves a child behavior, achievement level, motivation toward learning, and the quality of their child’s educational experience. Ms. LaVine “as educators we must be dedicated and innovative in building school settings that provide parents increasingly greater opportunities to become involved in their child’s school and be welcomed as vital partners in the education of their children.” “I am honored to be a part of a program with this level of parent participation and School commitment needed to obtain this level of state and national recognition,” said 2003-2004 LOLPK PTA spokesperson.
